The groupings

The catalog arranged by what the businesses do: each grouping below is one comparative table, every member a row, in columns of the line items that kind of business is read on.

Tables open largest first by latest-year revenue, the one objective order; every column sorts both ways, and the re-ordering is the reader’s own act. Margins and returns are medians over each company’s readable record — the through-cycle level, never one year’s print. Under each grouping, its industries: each links to a chapter where every member is read in full, entry by entry. 3,828 records across the three pools; which businesses a reader understands is the reader’s own question, and the one thing this page does not answer.

Every figure comes from the company’s own SEC or EDINET filings, computed the same way as on its page. A grouping’s columns are the line items its kind of business is read on; they name facts, weigh nothing, and form no rank.
